O
n 15-16 January 2008, the
Communication Foundation for Asia will reprise its enormously popular
Film and Faith Seminar outside of Manila, again with the international
media educator and film critic Fr. Peter Malone, MSC. CFA
will partner with a local NGO, the Dilaab Foundation, to or ganize the
seminar at the Buttenbruch Hall of the University of San Carlos Main
Campus in Cebu City. The seminar will carry the same title as the first one held in CFA in January 2007: “Film and Faith A Seminar on the Use of Film for Evangelization and Values Education”. Fr Malone will travel from Australia to Manila for Film and Faith 2, to be held in CFA on January 12-13, 2008, before proceeding to Cebu for this rare offering on January 15-16. Fr. Peter Malone is an Australian Missionary of the Sacred Heart and a consultant to CFA. He is an International Consultant to the Bishops' Committee for Film in the Philippines and was President of the International Organization for the Cinema (OCIC) and SIGNIS (World Catholic Association for Communication) until 2005. A very knowledgeable and articulate man of God, Fr. Malone’s first seminar at CFA simply exceeded the expectations of participants. It was for this reason that CFA persuaded Fr Malone to return and offer the same seminar to the Visayas area. Collaborating with CFA in Cebu is Dilaab, which means “conflagration” or “tongues of fire”, a volunteer-driven, Church-based movement for a transformed Filipino nation. Dilaab espouses heroic Christian citizenship, which is mostly evident in their projects. Fr. Carmelo Diola heads Dilaab as its Coordinating Steward. CFA's Film and Faith seminar responds to Dilaab's advocacy on making technology work for faith formation and spiritual enrichment of every Filipino. Set to take place in the country's oldest school and leading Catholic educational institution, Film and Faith is still on familiar territory. The University of San Carlos prides itself for its advocacy of the harmony of science and faith in its learning environment. Film and Faith 1 includes the following major topics: The Jesus-Films and Christ Figures and Symbols in Films. Presented in a lecture-workshop format, the seminar will feature video showings, group discussions and film analysis. To inquire or reserve slots for the seminar, interested parties may contact CFA at 713-2732 or 713-2972 or directly coordinate with Dilaab Foundation at (032) 416-9073, (032) 231-9546.
