When The Lord Plays His Music...
    Today’s Gospel:  Luke 7:31-35

    REFLECTION
In today’s Gospel, Jesus was referring to a game played by the children of that time.  (Perhaps even the Lord Himself had joined in the game during His childhood in Nazareth.) The players divided into two teams to play-act certain scenes which the opposing team had to complete. When one team began to depict a wedding; they piped or pretended to play the instruments expecting the others quickly to recognize the signs and to continue the acting or representation of the marriage procession. In like manner, when their turn came, the other children began to play a funeral game, expecting their friends to recognize what was taking place and to complete the representation of the solemn event. However, for reasons of their own, the watching youngsters refused to cooperate. Thus the cries went back and forth “calling one to another” - “We played weddings to you, and you did not dance”; “We sang dirges and wailed, playing funeral, and you did not weep.” The whole point in the illustration was that whatever happened, there were people who had already made up their minds not to cooperate. Whether the preacher laughed or cried; preached long or short sermons; spoke of the happiness of the blessed or the sorrow of the damned - he would never be able to please his listeners. Their prejudice and preconceived ideas had already closed the door of their hearts. True wisdom is always justified by her children; the attitude of the listeners obviously revealed they were not the children of wisdom - they were foolish, arrogant and evil.

Would you play to the Lord’s music?  Or would you ignore him?

    Today’s Reading:  Psalm 33:2-5; 12 and 22

    PRAYER
Lord, teach us to be always in tune to your wavelength...to listen to your messages...and more importantly to act as you desire when action is needed.  In Jesus’ Name we pray.  Amen.
