| Serving Jesus...The Mary And Martha Way |
|
Today’s Gospel:
Luke 10:38-42
REFLECTION There are lots of ways by which we can serve Jesus our Master. Today, Our Gospel looks on the Mary and Martha way of serving Him. Mary's way was sitting at the feet of Jesus, and drinking in His spirit. For Mary new inspirations must compel, life must touch life. Listening at the feet of Jesus was her way of entertaining and acknowledging Jesus' presence in their home. On the other hand, Martha is a matter-of-fact woman, it is natural to her to have much serving. The service of Martha is a sacrifice to duty. Martha's way was the way of active service; it was love serving. Mary's way was to listen at His feet and hear His words; it was love listening. Martha was doing something for Jesus; Mary was letting Jesus do something for her. We are serving Jesus in Mary's way when we worship as a group with other Christians; when we study in Bible classes; when we pray; and when we have family worship. These are inspirations. The church and true worship are a powerhouse. But they are complete and enduring only when they bring about active service. The large majority of mankind are in Martha's position, having little or no illuminative vision, doing active service. The service of Mary and Martha is a picture of two loving hearts, each trying in her own way to express her love for Christ and do what she conceives to be the thing that would please Him best. Both are good, but not completely good unless they are united. - MA Today’s Reading: Gal 1:13-24 PRAYER Lord Almighty, let me serve you in my own humble way in gratitude for all the love you have showered me. Let my service be modeled the way Mary and Martha did. May there be a balance in the service I may offer You between the way both good women served you. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen. |
