CFA Wins Website Award, 4 Citations from CMMA

For the second consecutive year, the Communication Foundation for Asia has won the best website trophy at the recently concluded 30th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) Night held last October 29, 2008 at the Teatro GSIS, Pasay City. CFA also won four citations for its children’s magazines – two for its youth magazines and two for its writers. Two other CFA writers/editors were honored with awards – including a Hall of Fame Award for a consistent award-winning comics story writer in CFA’s Gospel Komiks.

The award-winning website (www.cfamedia.org), which was launched in 2005 and expanded in 2006, was designed by CFA Training and Production Specialist Fr. Stephen Cuyos, MSC. It operates using Free Open Source Software, and contains CFA news, history, descriptions of its vision and departmental work, project stories and photos, videos, blogs and daily reflections.

With the theme “Promoting Truth and Service through the Mass Media”, CMMA also granted Special Citations for the Youth Magazine category to CFA’s Barkada Magazine and Gospel Komiks Magazine for Young People. The Comics Story of CFA Publications and Sales Director Cora Despabiladeras (“Honest ang Tatay Ko”) in Gospel Komiks and the Short Story of CFA staff writer Rowena Angeles’ (“May Regalo ang Pasko”) in Gospel Komiks Magazine, also won Special Citations from CMMA.

After garnering four earlier wins from CMMA for Best Comic Strip and Story in Gospel Komiks, Nicodemus Melgar, who had previously served as CFA’s Publications Head, was honored with a CMMA Hall of Fame award.

Renato Vibiesca, Editor for Baby Jesus Magazine, also won the Jaime Cardinal Sin Catholic Book Award for the Family Life, Youth and Children category, with his storybook “10 Kwento ni Kuya Nats”, from Morlanda Publishing.

Through the years, CFA has been a consistent winner of the Catholic Mass Media Awards not only for its publications and story writing, but also for its radio dramas, television programs, and now also for its website.
