Today’s Gospel:
Luke 17:7-10
REFLECTION In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that we are to do his work here on earth - without whining and without expectation of an earthly reward. We are to do His work, because He invited us to share in it when he told us to go forth and spread the gospel. Jesus tells us that humility is a gift. We go to work, do a good job and no one seems to notice. We go home, clean the house and not a word is said. We fix a meal and no one mentions if it tastes good or not. We find satisfaction in the fact that although the work never ends we continue to move forward with God’s grace. Jesus says that even if the master doesn’t invite the servants to dine with him, the servants should respond, “We are unworthy and have done only what we were told.” The servants in this teaching had no expectation of being rewarded for their day’s work. They didn’t whine about their work. Their remark was that they were only doing what they were told. They were just doing their job...for the right reason, to serve God. - MA Today’s Reading: Titus 2:1-8, 11-14 PRAYER Almighty God and Father, Grant me attentive ears that I may hear You when you call. Help me to do Your work with humility and perseverance, and to expect nothing in return. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen. |
